AN and ANNU=names of celestial and terrestrial sacred central cities. Egypt, _cf._ an=pillar or that which turns around. According to Flinders Petrie, the an was an octagonal fluted column with a square tenon or top.
MANU=sacred mountain situated in N. W. Egypt.
KW-AN-IRAS=sacred central cosmical division situated under pole-star, around which the six kingdoms of Iran were situated. Persia.
CANAAN=holy land, whose capital was Jerusalem.
AN-SHAN=name of ancient Persian empire.
