¹ This tract is alluded to in the concluding paragraph of Manasseh Ben Israel’s “Humble Addresses,” but the author has not yet been identified. He was at one time thought to be Sir Edward Nicholas (1593‒1669), Secretary of State to Charles I. and II., and it has even been stated that “Edward Nicholas” was a pseudonym of Manasseh himself.
